IT'S A GREAT WAY TO MAKE NEW BLOGGER FRIENDS.
Q: What is your biggest pet peeve when it comes to books? Maybe you don’t like love triangles or thin plots? Tell us about it!
Hmmm....So this may sound silly, but I HATE it when animals are killed in my books! I don't mind when people die, sure its sad but usually serves a purpose. BUT when they kill an animal or a pet, it just breaks my heart.
Dear Authors,
please don't kill any pets in your books.
P.S. An offender recently was
"Anna Dressed in Blood"
Good Book but a pet death scene...a cat dies :(
You are warned!

Oh my goodness YES!
ReplyDeleteSookie's cat in Dead Until Dark, and Hedwig in Deathly Hallows! I still haven't forgiven JKR for that >:/
I'm a total cat lady, AND a vegetarian, and I SO can't cope with animal harm. I'm like that with movies, too. There's an old John Wayne movie where a dog dies saving its human and I was devastated. Would the human have died to save the dog? A**hole. Again in True Grit, where The Dude rides the horse into the ground I was screaming-at-the-TV FURIOUS. Honestly, I wanted the horse to live and the girl to die. My husband thinks I was being silly :P
Crossing Anna Dressed In Blood off my TBR :P
You have the most unique response! Killing animals in books seems so strange. It doesn't really add anything other than shock and disgust. New follower :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think you are alone. I was book-talking The Art of Racing in the Rain the other day and a teacher said aloud in front of her class, "that book is too sad, the dog dies." Guess what? No one checked it out. Ha!

Hopping through. I'm bad but I usually don't mind when animals die in books. Because it's so emotional. But I did think the scene in Anna Dressed in Blood was unnecessary.
ReplyDeleteMy Hop
I've not read a book where there is a scene when an animal is killed yet. But I can see where you are coming from. Awesome answer
ReplyDeleteOMG! I am the same way! I hate that scene in Anna Dressed in Blood. Kill the people but touch the animals and then I am pissed and disgusted. They are just innocent bystanders that should be left out.

Hello! New follower! That's funny, I completely agree! Two of my least favorite animal deaths? The Goose Girl and A Mango-shaped Space. I actually cried when I read the latter. So sad.
ReplyDeleteHere's mine! epiBloguer
Great FF! I can't stand animals dying (Poor Hedwig!!), you can blast Harry with a thousand times Avada Kedavra but don't harm Hedwig!
ReplyDeleteOld follower:)
Come check out my FF: Dreamland Teenage Fantasy
I agree--animals and/or innocent characters (RIP Dobby).
ReplyDeleteNew follower :)
Have a great weekend!
I can't recall ever coming across an animal biting the dust in a book but it'd make me sad for sure. It just seems unnecessary to me.

As an animal lover I just slapped my forehead and asked myself why didn't *I* think of that?
ReplyDeleteI totally hate seeing animals killed in books. The last horror novel I read -- Deep in the Darkness by Michael Laimo -- had a number of gory, violent scenes involving animals. It put me off a lot but I held on because yeah, it's a horror novel, and I wanted to see where he was going with it.
Turns out the whole thing made sense in the end but I was still a little unsettled by the graphic depictions of animal slaughter.
I ended up going with a completely different pet peeve (if you can even call it that) Follow me back to my blog and find out what it is - http:///www.howardsherman.net

ReplyDeleteI love animals as well. We recently watched Conan (the new one) and throughout all the gore, all I could think of was "poor horses." My hubby snorted because, of course, I was more worried about the animals then humans.
I hate reading about animals getting killed for no reason. Great answer! And I haven't read Anna Dressed in Blood yet, but I have it. I've heard so many good reviews, but no one said anything about a cat dying :0( I'm a huge cat lover too. Grr.
Here's my FF
Awe that would be terrible . I'm reading 'You Suck'by Christopher Moore. It's a vampire book and I don't care much for vampires but ya, they had to suck the blood out of this cat and lucky for me they don't kill it , which would really suck so I'm glad you brought that up :)
ReplyDeleteI am a fairly new follower but I would be delighted if you followed me back . Take care .
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Goodness. I am so with you! It's especially sad when you feel more sadness at the animal dying than the human, but it happens! :) You're totally right about Anna Dressed in Blood! Amazing book, such a terrible death of a poor kitty. I hated that. :(
ReplyDeleteThanks for hopping by today!

Great post! I haven't read Anna Dressed in Blood but I totally agree! I don't want innocent animals to die in books!

What an original answer! Thanks for stopping by my blog this weekend.
ReplyDeleteHAHA! This made my day! This is the first FF that was different than any of the others out there! I agree with you! I hate when a puppy dies...

I totally agree with ya on pet deaths. The few that I've come across didn't help or hurt the plot in any way...so why even throw it in there. Definitely a worthy pet peeve.
ReplyDeleteYeah I don't understand pet death scenes. Why write the pet in the book?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
