"Weekends Required" By: Sydney Landon Review

Weekends Required
By: Sydney Landon

Synopsis from Goodreads

Claire Walters has worked for Jason Danvers as his assistant at Danvers International for three years, and he has never thought of her as a woman until the day she jumps out of a cake at his friend's bachelor party.
Claire is forced to work a second job at a party planning company to support her ailing mother. She is horrified when Jason not only finds out, but has a front-row seat to the action. With Danvers in the process of merging with another company,
Claire is forced to travel with Jason as well as work weekends. Suddenly all the fantasies she has entertained for years about her boss seem to be coming true. Her outspoken best friend Suzy thinks that just getting laid will solve everything. The problem is, Claire sees much more in Jason than just sex.
Jason is determined to know how the beautiful, sexy woman in the cake could also be his Plain Jane assistant who tries her best to blend into the background from 8-5 every day. Now not only does Jason see her as a woman, he fully intends to give her the fairy-tale ending that she deserves!
My Thoughts
Claire and Jason have worked together for years, yet Jason never has seemed to notice her. Coincidentally one weekend as Claire was also working as a woman who jumps out of a bachelor cake, Jason miraculously notices Claire and suddenly finds himself in lust. Its a tale of a loyal worker who falls in love with her boss, and while entertaining wasn't a favorite of mine.
The main thing I didn't like, frankly, was Claire. She was so stinkin’ insecure. I found it hard to believe that someone could be so shy and unsure of themselves yet be as close to a stripper as possible. She’s worked for Jason as his assistant for years and he’s never noticed her, but she’s always had this crush on him. Yet the moment she shows up in a corset and heels, he immediately falls for her and she’s ok with that? I’d be so over that superficial ass it wouldn't be funny, but Claire is totally cool with it.
Jason is a whole different crazy story. After the whole realization of his attraction to Claire during the special weekend, he suddenly feels super responsible for her. When Claire needs a loan, he calls the bank and has it come out of his bank account. When her mother has a stroke, it’s Jason working with the Doctors and helping with her treatment. So it could either fall into very sweet or stalker territory, take your pick.
Beyond the characters though, on the whole the story was cute. Once you get over the silliness of the characters, Jason and Claire are fairly cute together. Neither is completely comfortable with one another which makes for a pretty cute getting to know one another phase that I enjoyed. The secondary characters shine throughout and I found myself rooting for Suzanna, Claire’s best friend. Love her!
So what do I really think? It’s an okay story that you have to suspend a bit of your belief about, but definitely cute in places. Claire just bugged me like craaazy. I liked Suzy enough to get the second book, Not Planning on You, and am enjoying it way way more.
