Bring Me Back
By: Karen Booth
Synopsis from Goodreads
Music critic Claire Abby is a single mom dreading her daughter’s departure for college and worried that turning forty will leave her career running on fumes. She’s floored when she lands a Rolling Stone cover story on 80s British rock legend Christopher Penman. She spent her teenage years fantasizing he was her boyfriend.
My ThoughtsIn person, Christopher is everything Claire feared he’d be—charming, witty and unwilling to address the rumors he’s dodged for a decade. Still, she contains her adolescent fantasies and manages to earn his trust, unearthing the truth and the devastating secret behind it. His blockbuster story is her first priority when she returns home, a nearly impossible task when Christopher starts calling and flirting. She knows she should maintain a professional distance. She knows she should focus on the story. She knows it would be best to simply walk away. But how can she say “no” to the man she could never forget?
This book took me straight back to my teenage yaers and my intense love for Adam Levigne. A rock god in my eyes, I had his posters, his CD’s and to this day I can sing the entire Maroon 5 song collection without hardly thinking. Bring Me Back takes you back to that place when you were a teen and had that rock idol, but asks, what would happen if you actually connected 20 years later?
As a teen Claire was a huge fan of Christopher’s band. When she became an adult and starts her career as a reporter, she is surprised to realize that she now has a chance to interview her childhood crush.
Christopher’s time as a teen idol has long since passed. His hisotry is filled with drugs, women, and poor record sales and now he is trying ot rebuild his career. Launching a new cd, getting over a bad divorce, and meeting Claire seems to have given him a whole new outlook on life. Yet when rumours about his past again try to hurt his newfound look on life, the big question is, can his fledgling relationship with Claire be sustained?
Bring Me Back is a sweet story that I enjoyed. Claire is a single mom working her way through life and you can’t help but cheer for her as the rock star falls in love with her. Not an instant fall in love story, I enjoyed how each character took their time getting to know one another. You couldn’t help but root for Claire and Christopher, so much stuff had been thrown at them. At times it seemed to meander and bogged down by issues but quickly got back on track. All in all a really sweet romance I enjoyed, and it gave me a really good reason to dig out my old teenage crush’s cd.
